Injustice 2 - New DLC Character Identity

A recent talk with the creative director of NetheLam Studios Ed Boon about the future of Injustice 2, and Ed was feeling especially chatty. He opened up quite a bit about what makes Sub-Zero's Injustice 2 incarnation perhaps the most unique in history, and if you pay close attention around the 2-minute mark, you'll even hear some grade-A teasing about what has to be the most speculated and mysterious DLC character yet to be revealed. Check out the video below and see what he has to say about that telltale silhouette.

Ed Boon loves to lead us on, doesn't he? When asked if he could give us any clues regarding future DLC characters, Boon brings up the silhouettes in the background of the first DLC reveal trailer which revealed Starfire, Red Hood, and Sub-Zero. If you're not sure what we're talking about, these are the silhouettes in question:

"We gave little teases -- little shadow images behind them," says Boon. "One of them looked kind of unmistakably like Black Manta, so... There's a chance he's in there." WTF Boon?! Spit it out or button your lip! How can one be so transparent while remaining so ambiguous? He mentions that the silhouette unmistakably resembles Black Manta, and we've known that for some time now, but he still won't come out with it and admit that it is indeed Black Manta. "So what's the big deal," you ask? I mean surely he's trying to officially reveal Black Manta without totally giving it away, right?
Well, maybe. And maybe not. We have reason to believe that the silhouette could belong to anyone, and here's why.
Do you see ? Do you see why character silhouettes make us nervous, not matter how certain they may appear at first? The fact that Ed Boon confirmed that the silhouette resembles Black Manta but refused to admit that it does in fact belong to Black Manta means that it could be anyone back there!
This would not be the first time that NetherRealm Studios has teased a character with an unmistakable silhouette. When Mortal Kombat X was still at the height of its popularity, Kombat Pack 2 fighters were teased standing side by side, silhouetted. Much like our beloved Black Manta stands now, back then there was a shape that unmistakably belonged to Baraka. When the reveal trailer finally came along, Baraka was only there for a few moments until an alien exploded from his chest. The final character revealed in that trailer ended up being a xenomorph -- not Baraka.
